Reporting to the Senior Director, the Communications Manager oversees and coordinates the work of the Communications team, leading the development, implementation and evaluation of communication strategies that effectively convey initiatives, achievements and study findings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Communications Team - Working with the Senior Director to set priorities and strategic direction, provide direction to, mentor, support and develop the members of the Communications team to deliver their best work
  • Develop Communication Strategies - Create and execute comprehensive communication plans to support the initiatives, programs, and services plus collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify key messages and target audiences
  • Content Creation and Management - Write, edit, and oversee the production of press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and other communication materials
  • Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with local, provincial, national, and international media, as well as act as the primary contact for media inquiries and coordinate interviews with staff and experts
  • Health Organization Relations - Build and maintain relationships with the communications leads at Providence Health Care (PHC), Providence Research (PR) as well as other health organization partners
  • Internal Communications - Foster effective communication within the organization by developing internal newsletters, memos, and updates; as well as support the leadership team in communicating key messages and updates to staff
  • Event Management - Plan and coordinate events, such as press conferences, awareness campaigns, and community outreach programs
  • Crisis Communications - Develop and implement crisis communication plans to manage potential risks and protect the organizations reputation

Key Qualifications:
  • University degree (Masters degree preferred) in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations or related discipline
  • 5+years of recent related experience in a research or health care environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Leadership experience of a communications team
  • supplemented with leadership competency training an asset
  • Demonstrated excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with exemplary attention to detail
  • The ability to translate complex medical or technical information into clear and engaging content
  • Proven record in planning and creating compelling content and campaigns.
  • Experience in media relations and social media management with a passion for social justice, innovation and quality improvement
